Doing the small things makes a big difference down the road when it comes to instrument maintenance!
Remember to always loosen your bow, take off your shoulder rest (violin/viola), push in your end pin (cello/bass), and wipe off your strings and fingerboard. Be gentle with your instrument, even when it's inside its case.
Here are some common issues we see with string instruments:
My string broke.
Renters: Let one of your teachers know and you can possibly get a new one that day! If not, we'll order it for you and you'll receive one free of charge!
Non-Renters: Go to the music store and buy a new string for your instrument. $$
My bridge fell over.
If it didn't break, bring it to school and one of your teachers will fix it.
If it DID break:
Renters: Let one of your teachers know and we'll send your instrument out for you, free of charge. Your instrument shop will replace it for you.
Non-Renters: Go to the music store and buy a new bridge for your instrument. $$
My string is too loose for me to tune with fine tuners.
Not a big deal. Ask a teacher the next day to help you fix it! It's an easy fix, we promise.
My bow won't tighten/loosen.
Renters: Bring it to school and we will try to fix it. If we cannot fix it, we will send it out to your renters for you and you'll get it fixed or a get a new one!
Non-Renters: Bring it to school and we will try to fix it. Unfortunately, if we cannot fix it, you'll need to go to the music store and ask for the bow to be repaired or purchase a new bow. $$
